One Down, Four To Go

January 23, 2008

Fred Thompson dropped out of the race for the Republican nomination yesterday.

Giuliani is out of money and if he doesn’t win Florida next week, he will probably follow Thompson’s lead.

Huckabee is also out of money and his campaign is on economic life support. The best hope he ever had was as a VP slot on the ticket though, and that is still very much a possibility if Romney or McCain secure the nomination.

Ron Paul has rising support, money in the bank, and more than 10,000 precinct captains working to get him elected.

ZOGBY POLL: Ron Paul at 10% in Iowa

January 3, 2008

Pollster John Zogby is hedging his bets against the revolution as the folks in Iowa go to the caucuses today.  These pollsters have kept Dr. Paul “in the single digits” for as long as they believably can.  Once caucus results are announced later this evening, they would look pretty ridiculous still maintaining that Dr. Paul has the support of only 4% in Iowa when he actually comes in third or fourth in real voting with 12-16%.

Dr. Paul is tied with McCain (also at 10%)  and one point behind Thompson (11%) in this latest poll.  Imagine the surprise if Paul beats McCain, Giuliani, and Thompson.

There are already rumors afoot that Thompson is preparing to drop out and endorse McCain.  This will do nothing to stop the Ron Paul momentum though because it will only transfer votes from one neo-conservative warmonger to another.
