Fred Thompson Finally Enters GOP Race
August 30, 2007According to a blog at WashingtonPost.com, Fred Thompson told supporters on a conference call today that he is indeed going to run for the republican nomination for President. He is planning to confirm this on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno next Wednesday night as his fellow candidates are finishing up another Fox News debate. He is said to be making a formal announcement (he’s REALLY dragging this out, isn’t he?) the following day.
Again, Thompson finally deciding to announce his formal candidacy is going to have the most powerful impact on Rudy Giuliani’s poll numbers. Romney’s support will be somewhat decreased, but many of Mitt’s supporters are more focused on image and “looking Presidential” which Thompson does not. John McCain’s campaign is already on life support and this latest entry will only make things worse. Huckabee seems to be gaining support in evangelical circles and that probably won’t change. Ron Paul probably will be the most unfazed by Thompson’s entry because Thompson is a war hawk, neo-conservative, that won’t take any of Dr. Paul’s anti-war, small government, hippie, yuppie vote.
ARTICLE: Ron Paul-A Long Shot With A Real Chance
August 28, 2007Wow. The author of this article a week ago was saying that every conservative should fold ranks and support Tancredo for President. He now sees Ron Paul as the true conservative choice. He goes so far as to say that if Ron Paul could get his hands on some real campaign funds then we could see a replay of the 1980 election which was a clash between liberalism and conservatism. We all remember who won that one, don’t we?
